THE Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) awarded certificates of attendance to 23 Jefri Bolkiah Engineering College (MKJB) Marine Engineering students yesterday morning for successfully completing the "Damage Control and Leadership" course.
The four-day course included theory and practical sessions, and covers practice on basic fire fighting, use of fire fighting equipment, as well as doing practical damage control exercises using wedges to stem ingress of water as well as removal of water.
The team building and leadership tasks were designed to get the students working as a team and to improve their confidence in testing environments under pressure from both staff and peers.
Hj Md Sharifuddin Hj Md Salleh, Principal of MKJB, was on hand to present the certificates to the students.
During his welcoming speech, the principal hailed the relationship between MKJB and RBN, which he said dated back to 1985 when MKJB first started its Marine Engineering Certificate courses, whereby RBN helped to facilitate by providing assessors to assess the Marine's Final Year students' project.
