Vocational, technical schools join MKJB engineering and technology contest

Four vocational and technical institutions gathered at Jefri Bolkiah Engineering College (MKJB) for the Inter-VTI Engineering and Technology Final Year Project competition, which kicked off yesterday morning.
The competition launch was officiated by MKJB Principal, Cikgu Haji Md Sharifuddin bin Haji Md Salleh.
The competition, which revolves around the theme 'Transcending Excellence through Creativity and Innovation', provides a platform for technical and vocational students to showcase innovative projects through knowledge gained from their training programme.
MKJB entered the competition with a project entitled 'Robotics', where students designed a battery-operated robot that shows a focus on mechatronics, electronics, mechanical and computer engineering. The Robotics team considers this project significant as their design could be useful in industry while saving manpower.
A second team from MKJB showcased their 'Threshing Machine' project, which is a machine utilised for agricultural purposes. The machine can be used in paddy fields during times of harvest and serves to separate seeds of grains from the husk and straw. It is also affordable than larger industrial machines.
Meanwhile, two teams from Sultan Saiful Rijal Technical College entered a 'Faculty Information System' project into the competition, which was created for departments to store information effectively, as well as a 'Brunei Experience Multimedia Project', which involves the effective collection of information regarding content obtained through interviews, books and the Internet.
A 'Malay-English' dictionary project was submitted by one of the teams from Sultan Bolkiah Vocational School, while its second team entered an 'Inventory Management System' project aimed at installing a computerised system for the school storekeeper.
Two teams from the Nakhoda Ragam Vocational School showcased a project on 'High Current Switch Using Bipolar Junction' for switching a power or control circuit, as well as a construction-based study involving reinforced concrete on a housing project.
The results of the competition will be announced this afternoon and the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Higher Education), Ak Abdullah bin Pengiran Haji Tengah, will present prizes and certificates to the winners.
